Psychological sleep help tips:
Listen

Share similar worries you have experienced. Normalize the issue, reassuring them many people have the same irrational fears. And understand your child’s fears and anxieties.

Express

to resolve worries and fears via drawing, coloring, or finger painting. Ask questions about different aspects of their art to help understand their concerns or fears. Reassure them they are safe.

Reinforce

a positive, calm, and rational reality with happy art. Image fun, silly dreams during the day, bath time, and before bed. Provide sleep help by journaling their successful, happy dreams and daily engaging in happy dream art

Brainstorm

and list together why they are safe. Create positive realities like, “Did you know your inner superhero can say goodbye to the scary monsters and imagine happy friends?” Empower their thought process by discovering their mind’s superhero strength via drawing and storytelling.

Discuss

reality vs. imagination for better sleep. Give concrete examples like, “I can sit on my bed, so it is a reality. I cannot physically touch the scary monster in my dream, so it’s my imagination. Reinforce the difference during playtime by touching imaginary things and touching concrete objects.

Share

inspiring stories of how you overcame fears as a child. Normalize and validate their bedtime fears to deflate the power.

To manage physical discomforts.

At Tucked+Covered, our high-quality kids’ bedding stays neat, so kids love helping mom make their beds! What’s the magic? Our signature button design. It’s true! Not only does our design nurture your little one with comfy coverage for optimal sleep, but our neatly tailored sheets also create easy bed making:) What a relief for you and your child. One more thing they can do for themselves, building self-esteem in the process. And one less thing you have to do, allowing you to breathe a little easier:)

Psychologytoday.com reports that most people make their bed feel happier in their life. So, why not give your kiddo a daily boost by having them make their bed? Here are a few tips to kickstart the estimable habit:

Tidy the Chaos

Kids love loads of furry friends and special pillows on their beds. So, when parents say “make your bed,” children often feel overwhelmed by the clutter and don’t know where to start. Set them up for success by adding a unique hammock or large toy container in their room for their fuzzy pals and dolls. With this, they have less on their bed to neaten:)

Color in Quilt Squares

Draw a quilt with 12 squares and hang it on the fridge. Each time they make their bed, they get to color a square, and you can reward them with a gold star sticker. You could give them a fun little prize when they have colored all of the squares. Repeat the exercise as often as you like:)

Create a Win/Win Situation

Build their self-esteem by using our high-quality kids’ bedding. With Tucked+Covered’s button design, it’s easy to tidy their sheets. Simply smooth, straighten, and they are ready to start their day:) Bonus: Since their sheets stay neatly on their bed, the comforter naturally stays in place too;)

Teach with Song

Teach them a bed-making song using a familiar tune. For example, sing The wheels on the bus go round and round with lyrics to tie in bedmaking. Verse one can be something like ” the first thing we do is smooth and straighten, smooth and straighten, smooth and straighten. The first thing we do is smooth and straighten for -a neat -bed”.

Make it a game. You model how to make the bed; then your little one gets a turn. Add verses for each part of the process:)

Praise Them for Their Effort

If you are using traditional sheets that require tucking, be patient. It’s not easy for their little hands to fold the sheet corners and sides under the mattress. Remember to play the bed-making game on occasion so they can try to model your behavior when it’s their turn. Let them know you are proud of them, no matter how they do. And remind them all skills take a lot of practice:)

Practice with a Smaller Blanket

During play, engage with them as they practice covering their furry friends or dolls neatly with a smaller, more manageable blanket. Listen to them as they play. Often, children will parrot how they perceive you. So, it’s a good time to check in and sees if you’re parenting as you wish:)

Fun Fact

As Gretchen Rubin, author of #1 New York Times Bestseller The Happiness Project, engaged in her year-long experiment to research and discover how to create true happiness, she learned how people start their day makes a big difference. Rubin shares when her participants in the happiness venture implemented the new habit of making their bed every morning, it was by far the most impactful change on their journey to sustainable happiness:)

At Tucked+Covered, our mission is better sleep for the whole family:)

Give our high-quality kids bedding a try for 30 nights or naps:) We spent countless hours perfecting your child’s bed linens for the best rest possible. And why we were at it, we made bed-making easier too;) Making their bed every morning teaches your child that accomplishing the little things during the day makes us feel good inside.

Do you want to add a festive flare of warmth to your child’s sleep space? We do!! That’s why we added a dazzling fiesta sky for your little star gazer’s soft and cozy bed linens:) As our team researched the best ideas for your child’s bed sheets, we learned

it’s simple to add a dusting of stars to any decor since these bright and lively symbols are:

Neutral

Like polka dots, stripes, and solids, stars gently accent your child’s sleep space.

Inspiring

A dreamy night’s sky is sure to spark their colorful imagination for sweet dreams.

Ageless

Our innovative button design will flow with their growing bodies and spirit as your child develops.

It’s true!

According to interiordesign.com, stars are genuinely inspiring and compliment just about any room. So, it’s effortless to sprinkle their charm as you please. The twinkling is often so discreet; their zesty light-hearted presence unknowingly creates curious, motivated smiles on our faces. So, to be sure, as your child grows, stars will align with their forever evolving interests.

Here’s a fun fact:

In the 1700s, American farmers began centrally mounting grand stars above their Big Red Barn doors for Good Luck. So, stars are for all ages, genders and never go out of style.

Not only do interior designers adore stars’ decor, so do kids!

Girls and boys love the idea of sleeping with the night’s glowing sky, staying comfy covered on their own, and fast asleep until morning. I mean, do we think kids enjoy waking up in the middle of the night? We usually are so frustrated when our child wakes us; we forget how upsetting it is for them. Yep. It’s a fact. No person at any age likes their precious sleep disrupted. Getting your child to sleep through the night is easier when they stay covered. And guess what? Not only does our patented design create better sleep, but it also fosters a positive sense of self. Here’s how:

Positive Self Esteem

Our pure cotton sheets allow your child to keep themselves covered, creating inner strength:)

Independence

Your child will truly feel proud and relieved to count on themselves for better sleep.

Security

Our sheet design soothes inner anxiety, promoting a sound, worry-free rest.

Now, getting your child to sleep through the night is much easier:)

Finally, children control their own sleep space, nurturing themselves with the sleep help they need. No wonder kiddos love us! Our impactful yet straightforward bedsheet design is super calming and rewarding. Yep. Our steady coverage gently soothes them into the peaceful night’s rest they crave. Now, when they awake, it’s in the morning! They feel empowered, rested, and ready to seize the day with better sleep.

Kids Bedding ~ An Interview in Playa Vista People https://tuckedcovered.com/kids-bedding-an-interview-in-playa-vista-people/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=kids-bedding-an-interview-in-playa-vista-people https://tuckedcovered.com/kids-bedding-an-interview-in-playa-vista-people/#respond Mon, 29 Nov 2021 01:52:58 +0000 https://tuckedcovered.com/?p=6338 Continue reading Kids Bedding ~ An Interview in Playa Vista People]]>

T+C’s Kids Bedding is in Playa Vista Digital Magazine, a Michael Levine Media Publication.

Receiving the invitation from this dynamic lifestyle magazine special coordinator, Bianca Rickheim, was a pleasant surprise. This local publication fills its pages with real people stories within our Silicon Beach Area. Reaching over 25,000 people in Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Culver City, Westchester, and Playa Del Rey, it’s a great way to share my innovative design with our community. Check out the interview below and let me know what you think.

1. Why did you choose to conduct Tucked+Covered’s Kids Bedding business affairs in the Silicon Beach area? How did you get there?

-I’m happy to say I live in the Playa Vista community. My family and I moved from Venice, CA, over seven years ago, and we welcome our new surroundings like a breath of fresh air. And, although Venice has its unique offerings, the living lifestyle is entirely different. So, that’s how my kids’ bedding business landed in Silicon Beach Area; I work from home. I love rising every morning, seeing the joggers and bikers start their day on a positive note as I walk my pups. Plus, experiencing families walking their children to and from school nourishes the soul. The neighborhood reminds me of an upscale, modern-day version of Mayberry, North Carolina, the hometown television setting from The Andy Griffith show. It’s a beautiful, safe area to live in, making it effortless to awake and seize the day.

2. What would you have to say has been the forefront of your success in your career?

I believe in my innovative kids’ bedding design; the concept works beautifully. So, when the odds stack against me, I persevere. Here’s how it works: The oversized fitted sheet buttons mate with our neatly tailored flat sheet buttonholes. As I designed the concept, one dysfunctional detail led me to change another until it captured a synergistic quality like no other linens on the market. The united information works together to keep children comfy covered, and their bed neat, all the while providing lots of wiggle room. Who knew a kid’s bedding design could build self-esteem? We did:)

3. Do you see yourself going beyond the Silicon Beach area?

-Networking on Instagram, I hear from moms all over the country and world struggling with nighttime wake-up calls, desperate for a good night’s rest. I feel so much joy seeing them light up when they sleep with my sheets for the first time:) It would be great to distribute in many countries in an ideal world since international shipping is so expensive. What can I say? I’m a dreamer who wants to help people sleep better. As for my family and me, our home base will remain in the tech-savvy, people-friendly little town of Playa Vista. You know what they say, home is where the heart is, and my heart is here 🙂

4. Where are you from?

-Although I landed in Cali 25 years ago joining my husband, I grew up in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, with Charlie Daniels, the famous country music singer. His son, Charlie Junior, was a student at the local high school, so that The Charlie Daniels Band would perform in the gymnasium annually. Mt. Juliet is a tranquil place in the country where my imagination kept me entertained for hours. Some days, when my friends weren’t around to play, I would sit in the fields, make flower necklaces, look for four-leaf clovers and catch lightning bugs on warm summer nights. And, although I feel Silicon Beach has so much more to offer my children, I’m happy I grew up in the country.

5. In what ways have you seen the area change since you’ve been here?

We moved here before the development of Runway, so there have been some great additions to the community. It’s so lovely having peace of mind as my daughter skateboards to Whole Foods with her friends. And Tech inspiration is all around, right at our fingertips, not to mention the Cinemark movie theaters, the one-of-a-kind shops, and the yummy restaurants. We conveniently get our hair cut at Beauty Beach Lounge:) They do a great job:) My pups and I love the new dog park with the turf and cooling water river. It’s their favorite:).

Annenberg PetSpace, a unique high-tech animal adoption facility for animal lovers, also opened while living here. My son and I volunteer at Annenberg PetSpace most Sundays, nurturing his interest in Veterinary Medicine. My family and I have made so many great memories with all of the new additions at Silicon Beach.

YES OR NO QUESTIONS:

Are you scared of heights?

-Never! Bring on the heightened perspective, and I’ll welcome the challenge:) Going skydiving is on my bucket list:)

Do you listen to The Beatles?

-Doesn’t everybody? I mean, as I’ve matured, I do enjoy escaping with classical music, but I’m always game for a Beatles tune:)

Have you vomited in the last year?

-You know, come to think of it, I’ve been Vomit Free this past year. I wish I could say the same for my dogs:/

Does your car have seat warmers?

-Oh. So that’s what you call that butt and back warming feature. I thought it was the “tension therapy “feature;). Yes!! I do have seat warmers:):)

Have you smoked at least one cigarette in the last year?

-I can’t say that I have; It gets in the way of my yoga;)

Realizing this, I felt relief I wasn’t alone. Curiously researching for answers, I often find parents think it’s their child, and the truth is. Usually, it’s not the child at all; it’s common disruptive environmental factors responsible for waking.

A Significant Sleep Disruptor

One of the most overlooked nighttime waking factors is children kicking off sheets. Yep. Something as simple as kicked-off sheets makes getting your child to sleep through the night seem impossible. That’s why our mission at tucked+covered is to keep your kiddos comfy covered. We know first hand when kids stay covered, they sleep better. And when your kids sleep, then you sleep. It’s that simple.

The Sleep Sack

The sleep sack has been a sleep saver for many of us. All we need to do is a zip to cover up your little sweetie, and your growing child stays comfy covered on their own. Easy Peasy. There are no kicked-off coverings until it’s time to shift to the toddler or big kid bed. And often, when children change to their big kid bed, waking becomes an issue once again. Many assume it’s the size of the bed that’s uncomfortable for your tot. But we’ve found it’s the kicked-off bedding that makes getting your child to sleep through the night difficult.

Big Kid Bed

So, how do I set myself up for success when transitioning my child to their big kid bed? Here are a few I’ve found helpful.

Sound Machine

If the room is too quiet, it can create anxiety for the child. Don’t get me wrong; we don’t want disruptive sounds like the television, people chatting, or loud music playing in an adjacent room. These are disruptive sounds. But soothing sounds can be helpful. I use a sound machine every night, and it’s so relaxing. When I don’t use one, I notice the difference. I awake several times at night for no apparent reason.

Keep Them Dry

Bedwetting is a definite sleep disruptor we want to avoid. And, even if you have reached accident-free status during the day, be safe at night. The extra absorbent nighttime pull-ups are a mom’s best friend. We can try to avoid liquids 2-3 hours before bedtime. And if they are insistent on a drink, make it fun. Have a small water Popsicle with a bit of fruit for a few fun licks. That may be all you need to satisfy their thirst:)

Keep Them Covered

At Tucked+Covered, we make the big kid bed transition easier. Since Kicked off sheets are a significant sleep disruptor, our stretch-to-move button design is the first non-restricting coverage on the market. You see, my design stretches, allowing the sheets to adapt to flow with your child’s movement. Now, kids stay comfy cover, the bed stays neat, and everyone gets better sleep.

100% Soft, Breathable Cotton

I design with only the best for my customers:). You see, I will only sell what I will use for my kids. And, knowing the importance of pure cotton bedding to nurture sleep, that’s what I use. Sure, cotton blended with polyester fabrics is cheaper when making kids’ bedding, but it’s quality and not quantity I’m after, period. And, even though the cute prints will pop out to us as we scroll Amazon, the bed linen print ultimately contributes very little when keeping our children comfy covered and sound asleep at night. The lack of breathability with “cotton rich” or 60% cotton and 40% polyester blended fabrics often causes itchiness, awaking our children as they kick off the discomfort. Microfiber is also a nighttime waker for kids. So, don’t be fooled by the big companies who have cleverly worded their fabric choices as comfortable. Unfortunately, their end goal is not your kids’ comfort; its quick impulse buys from the customer to gain the almighty dollar, not loyalty. At Tucked +Covered, we’re seeking long-term commitment with our customers. And we know loyalty and honesty go hand in hand. So, no trickery here:)

Big Buttons Keep Kids Covered and Beds Neat

Being a mother of two myself, I think of everything I want in my bedding and incorporate it into Tucked+Covered’s design. That’s why I chose oversized buttons and attached them with elastic on the fitted sheet. The result of this concept is a top sheet that stretches, keeping them comfy covered all the time. On the top sheet, I have reinforced compatible buttonholes. The buttoning idea works excellent to customize the coverage for each child. If your child likes to stick a foot out, leave the last button unbuttoned. If they run hot, keep the first button unbuttoned on one side. And if your bed sits against a wall, keep all of the wall buttons fastened. Then, the sheets stay put until your following linen change. So, instead of the child kicking off the sheets as they move to grow, our high-quality kids’ bedding flows to keep them comfy covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since tucked+covered’s buttoning concept is new to the market, there are several questions customers ask frequently. Here are a few:

1. Can my child get out of the bed with all of the buttons fastened?

The short answer is Yes! My design is all about fostering independence and self-esteem. Remember, the buttons stretch, so it’s easy for kids to hop in and out of bed. And when they keep themselves covered, they feel proud:)

2. Do you have more prints?

Currently, I have only two-star prints; pink and blue. Of course, my plan shortly is to have a variety of patterns. Right now, I’m testing the concept to see if it’s something appealing to moms or just me. So far, it is a resounding Yes! Moms are ready for bedding that does the job intended to do; keep their child comfy covered.

3. My child kicks off their coverings as they get hot at night. Is your design right for them?

The answer is Yes! You see, tucking often results in overheating, so they will kick off the coverings seeking relief and comfort. With space between the buttons, a natural airflow naturally generates as the child moves, preventing the overheating that accompanies tucking.

4. How do you make the bed?

The short answer is you don’t. With buttons, we tailored the excess fabric once used for tucking. We don’t need it anymore since the buttons hold the sheets on the bed. Lucky for us, the tailored material creates what we have all been waiting for; the elimination of bedmaking:). What a relief!!

Give us a try

Lucky for you, our high-quality kids’ bedding does not include a high price anytime. And during Black Friday, I’m practically giving them away. Why? Our end goal is to help families everywhere get better sleep. So, I run sales occasionally with a price everyone can afford. So remember to sign up for our email so you can get your Black Friday code🙂 When your kids sleep, then YOU sleep. And better sleep makes for a happier family:)

Sleep Happy:)

Never fear! We’ve got you covered:) On November 7, 2021, while we are all still sleeping, Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 am. And, although we “just” fall back an hour, our sleep cycles are disrupted whether we like it or not. The good news is we will gain an hour when the clocks fall back:) I don’t know about you, but I could use the extra hour. In fact, I could use a few extra hours. That’s why we take naps.

Yep, our long summer days will soon be gone, replaced by ( definitely not my favorite) early evening darkness. Yikes!! I mean, it’s great when it comes to getting your child to sleep, but hitting the sack too early throws our body clocks off, leaving our little tikes waking us too soon for our morning cup of joe. So, needless to say, when the clocks roll back, it’s a challenge for the whole family. I must say, there is an upside. I do enjoy the morning lightness:)

Unfortunately, adults often view sleep cycle disruptions as learning difficulties, stubborn behavior, or emotional issues. So, to keep your families sleep intake healthy when Daylight Savings Time ends this year, Parents magazine journalist Dina Port shares a few ways to ease the adjustment for everyone:

Plan Ahead

Planning for the time change makes for a smoother transition. Each year, do your research to find when Daylight Savings Time ends and begins. Then, set a phone reminder a few weeks before time falls back or springs forward. This way, you’re ahead of the game when beginning your sleep help process.

Transition Process

About two weeks before daylight savings time ends this November, begin gradually putting your child to bed later and waking them later. For Example, if their bedtime is at 8:00, shift it to 8:15 for a few nights. Continue to move forward in 15-minute increments until you reach 9:00. Please do the same for their morning routine. If they wake at 6:00, wake them at 6:15 until you hit 7:00. When we Spring forward to begin Daylight Savings time, follow the same process, only subtract time in 15-minute increments. So, if your child’s bedtime is 8:00, shift back to 7:45 until you reach 7:00. Scheduling the transition days will create a much smoother time change for the whole family:)

Light Management

Managing the light and darkness in your home and sleep space will help your brain adjust its natural melatonin production. If it’s light, our melatonin levels intuitively decrease to keep us awake, and when it’s dark, we automatically produce more of this slumber-inducing hormone. So, this November, when it’s unclear at 5:00 pm, turn on more lights in the home to fight off the instinctive melatonin production. And, to keep your little one asleep in the early rising morning, blackout curtains will do the trick;) These clever window coverings will also come in handy when we spring forward and the evening sun is up until 8:30 pm 🙂

Bedtime routine

Developing a predictable bedtime routine is another robust and automatic signaling process for your kiddo’s brain. Start with a relaxing warm bath, sprinkling Epsom salts a few times a week. There are several kid-friendly bath salts on the market:). Kids Magnesium supplements also help relax your child before bed. Other routine favorites are eating a small nutritious snack to prevent rumbling tummies, brushing your teeth together, putting on their favorite p.j.’s, slipping into their cozy, comfy bed, and reading a fun book with stunning pictures. And don’t forget to have snuggle time as they go to sleep, nestling their favorite cuddle securely in their arms for comfort:)

Fun Fact:

When choosing a nightlight, experts suggest red over white—blue or green lights. Remember, when the brain senses white or blue light, it automatically produces less melatonin. Lucky for us, scientists have discovered when the brain feels red night light, we naturally make more of our sleep-friendly hormone, relaxing our mind and body into a sound relaxing slumber:)

Empathetic Awareness

Let’s face it. The time change is challenging for everyone. So, be patient if the time change aggravates the child’s mood during the shift and they struggle to engage in school; it will pass with time. Chances are you’re also feeling foggy and groggy. Being aware ahead of time that it’s normal to expect mood swings as a result of the time change is half the battle:) Remind yourself to not only be empathetic with your child but also with yourself and your husband. Caring and understanding attitudes make a madhouse into a glad house:)

At Tucked+Covered, our mission is better sleep for the whole family.

How did tucked+covered’s better sleep sheets develop? If you missed it the first time, Kamala’s article in this week’s local paper, The Argonaut. Thanks, Kamala, for the beautiful write-up:) I am very grateful you are helping me spread the word.

Kamala Kirk Shares my Story

Tired of being sleep-deprived when her 4-year-old son was waking up in the middle of every night, Stefanie Huber shares her realization his kicked-off sheets were the reason behind his frequent awakenings. Huber shares her testing the theory by fastening the bed covers so the sheets are steady, and her son’s sleeping through the night with better sleep is the result. Ultimately, this discovery sparked a business that would help other parents and their children experiencing the same issue.

Design Inspiration

“My son was just transitioning to his big boy bed; he was waking up every night,” Huber says. “I didn’t understand why he was waking up at first, but then I saw that he was kicking off his sheets and couldn’t cover himself. He was coming to me because he didn’t know what else to do. When I tried fastening the covers together to give us both better sleep, he slept through the night, and I realized that a lot of other families could benefit from this solution as well.”

Huber founded Tucked + Covered, a patented high-quality kids’ bedding system that keeps children covered at night, promoting better sleep for the entire family.“Having an idea with no business experience, it has taken me several years to manifest my product for the market,” Huber says.“But I am happy to say it’s here to share with other families suffering from nighttime wake-up calls, or even families who would like their child’s bed to stay neat night and day without the laborious chore of bedmaking.”

How it works

The high-quality kids’ bedding is made from 100% cotton with easy-to-secure elastic and oversized durable buttons to keep everything in place and eliminate the need for bed-making. “What’s great about the design are the buttons,” Huber says. “They’re not locked to the bed, they stretch, and the sheet moves with them, so they don’t have to adapt to the sheet. Kids can smooth and straighten their beds because the buttons keep the sheets on the mattress where they belong, and that’s one less thing for Mom to do. I think we tend to get caught up in how the bedroom looks, but what’s more important to me is knowing that my child is covered at night.”

Future Plans

Each three-piece set includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcase. The buttons and elastic allow for adjustable sizing and are available in twin and full sizes, in addition to fun stars and moonlight prints. They are designed for kids ages 2 to 12, but Huber is also working on a new concept for adults and teens. “I’m planning to offer more designs in the future, and I’m also working on compatible blanket designs that I tailored,” Huber says. “All the layers will be able to attach, and you can leave a button open in case you get hot. It’s adaptable for each person.”

Innovative, Customizable Features

Other features parents and kids love about the sets are kids can stick their legs out and play under the sheets like a tent, and parents can also hide things in the pillowcase like tooth fairy presents, and they won’t fall out. In addition to being washer and dryer safe, the easy-care fabric makes for wrinkle-free sheets. Huber says that the response to her product has been incredible, and she’s received great feedback from happy parents.

“Once parents try it, they love it,” Huber says. “They love that their kids stay covered, sleep through the night, and they don’t have to keep making the bed. It’s also a self-esteem builder because they don’t have mommy around to keep them covered. One mom told me that her child dances around the bed because she’s so excited about her sheets. I’m just thrilled that I can help parents and kids sleep through the night.”

Moms Helping Moms

As a result of Tucked + Covered, Huber has connected with many moms and formed friendships.“It feels terrific to be able to help other moms,” Huber says. “There’s this unspoken bond, and we want to help each other. If I can help someone’s kids get the sleep they need, I’m excited that I’ve been able to touch their lives positively.”
