Tucked+Covered’s kids’ bedding is spreading the news to help families sleep better:) Living in Playa Vista, California, a beautiful family-filled community, I receive the Playa Vista Direct Magazine. This publication’s focus is on the higher good of our community, which, in turn, brings us all closer together. Do you know when you need a pick me up during the day? Well, this is one of mine. I love thumbing through the vibrant, well-written pages to add a little pep to my step:)
The Challenge
I’ve learned along the way that getting people to try sheets with buttons is challenging, no matter how well the design works. For the most part, we are all creatures of habit. So, tossing something new into the market mix as a start-up business is often discouraging. Small businesses put so much heart and soul into their products, often to be trampled by the big bucks corporations. Yep. The almighty dollar skews what products are visible in the marketplace. So, what people see advertising is often not always the best product; it’s the product with the most advertising dollars.
Perseverance
I’ve almost given up many times due to my lack of funding and inexperience as a businesswoman. But I believe in my product, so I always keep moving forward. Aligning with Charmaine Ho and Stacey Kirsch, founders of See You Monday project-based marketing agency, on one of those days when I was about to throw in the towel gave me a renewed sense of hope. You see, they do not do the work for me; they teach me how to support my own business. And this guidance is what I had been looking for as an eager entrepreneur.
Spreading the New on a Shoestring Budget
A key component Charmaine and Stacey are teaching me today is not to be intimidated or discouraged due to my minimal budget. But instead, they are encouraging me to take the reins and market my product. I now realize being timid does not serve me in this dog-eat-dog marketplace. So, I recently took a shot and reached out to our local Playa Vista Direct magazine editor, Kamala Kirk, to see if she was interested in running a story about my product. Her quick reply of YES was so encouraging and inspiring. I’m happy to announce Tucked+Covered’s kids’ bedding will be in the September/October issue of my neighborhood publication. It is currently up digitally on the Playa Vista Direct Website. Thank you, Kamala, for sharing Tucked+Covered with parents and children in our community. And thank you, Charmaine and Stacey, for seeing my potential when it’s a blur to me. I am very grateful to all of you for contributing to my business in a positive light:)
