Kids Yoga ~ Getting your child to sleep through the night

Getting your child to sleep through the night is always our top priority.  While I was recently researching helpful sleep ideas to share with you, I stumbled across this amazing website Cosmic Kids Yoga.  As I’ve shared, I’m a big fan of yoga!  Being a daily practitioner, I live with the benefits first hand.  My breathe is relaxing, my body feels great, I feel much calmer and focused throughout my day plus I sleep better:)  Today, kids yoga is often taught at bedtime to aide in getting your child to sleep through the night.  I’ve often thought of teaching my kids yoga, but wasn’t sure how to engage them. Needless to say, I was leaping over the moon when I found Cosmic Kids Yoga:)  Boy do they have the 411 on kids yoga:):)

As we know, kids love anything fun…I mean who doesn’t?  At Cosmic Kids Yoga, their mission  is to nurture our children with fun yoga! I love it when I find good in the world:):)  On their journey, they’ve discovered so many healthy benefits with their clever, enriching kid friendly techniques.

Take a peek at how Cosmic Kids Yoga is strengthening children around the world:

1. Kids’ Yoga Creates Confidence ~Look what I can do:)

Every child needs space to thrive without competition.  Understanding their individual worth regardless of their peer’s performance is essential in creating self-confidence.  Kid friendly yoga is perfect to create this essential win-win scenario.  As you see them move at their own pace and try a new pose, admire them aloud for being a healthy risk taker.  Ask them to help teach you the pose as they learn self care.   When you’re by their side, you’ll be amazed how much joy touching your toes will bring to both of you:)

2. Kids’ Yoga Nurtures Flexibility ~ In more ways  than one;)

Need a simple remedy to reduce falls and ouchies on the playground?  Weave yoga into your weekly routine:)   Just like with adults, a regular yoga practice increases flexibility, improves blood flow and strengthens balance in both the mind and body.  Many teachers are implementing Cosmic Kids Yoga around the globe.  During a recent survey among these participating educators, they reported 97% of their students had a noticeable improvement in body strength, coordination and balance.  Now that’s what I call a win!!

3. Kids’ Yoga Enlivens Focus ~ A must for learning:)

As we engage in online learning this fall, a perfect brain break for students is kid friendly yoga!  Teacher’s who have implemented yoga breaks with their classes have seen significant increases in sustainable focus and concentration.  As children learn conscious breathing techniques, anxiety and stress melt away, re-centering their minds and bodies into a ready to learn state of being:)

Fun Fact

Recently, a school in Baltimore has taken a leap of faith:)  Rather than punishing students with behavior problems,  traditional detention has been replaced with a mindfulness yoga meditation program. Since this huge shift, troubled students have much better behavior, fostering the ability to self regulate.  And parents report getting their child to sleep through the night has improved as a result of this healthful practice.

4.  Kids’ Yoga is a Win for All

In today’s society most group activities, from athletics to academics,  promote some level of competition. And, not all kids like to compete.  In fact, it’s important for adults to model the core concept of yoga on a daily basis, which is encouraging each child to be the best they can be:)  Ultimately in life, it’s not about being THE best, it’s about being YOUR best.  And striving to be OUR best everyday as we listen closely to what we need foster’s positive thinking, independent values and self care, which is a sound set up for a happy life;)

5.  Kids Yoga is Fun Learning

Who doesn’t like having fun while exercising?  I know I do!  And Kids do too:)  Playing relatable music as children learn to breathe and stretch aides in memory retention.  So, as the music begins, their conscious breathing and movement becomes automatic, like a dance routine.  Playful stories also work well, setting up a successful practice of weaving conscious breathe with words and movement.  The kids have so much fun, they forget they are learning and finish with a happy fresh and balanced  perspective for class time:)

At Tucked+Covered, our mission is better sleep for the whole family.

In addition to yoga brain breaks, try some mindful breathing and stretching before bedtime.  Your children will feel more relaxed as they settle in for a sound night’s rest.  And we know when your kids sleep, then YOU sleep.  It’s that simple;)
